KISS Gets ASCAP Founders Award

KISS gets the ASCAP Founders Award last night. Gene Simmons brought awareness. Why isn't the group Humble Pie in the RnR Hall Of Fame but Madonna is? Dave Grohl...the greatest rocker of all time was the man that brought them out on stage. KISS gets the ASCAP Founders Award for career achievement -- and an enthusiastic introduction by superfan Dave Grohl. The Doobies picked up the Voice of Music Award, for giving voice to the spirit of a generation. The group was represented by current members Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons and John McFee plus former member Michael McDonald, The ceremony also recognized the ASCAP-affiliated writers of the 50 most-performed songs of 2014. KISS not only received the Founders Award, but a musical tribute from Rock of Ages star Constantine Maroulis backed by Tom Morello's band. They did a medley of "Detroit Rock City," "Love Gun" and "Rock and Roll All Nite." The four Doobie Brothers joined with Richie Sambora and his bandmates Orianthi and Michael Bearden to perform "Black Water" and "Taking It to the Street." Introducing KISS, Dave Grohl spoke about what buying his first KISS album meant to him as a kid.
